In the hours prior to the Bush-Allawi press conference, ANSWER and
VoteNoWar.org members distributed 4,000 leaflets at the
Washington DC metro (subway) stops. The leaflet reminded people of the other
costs of this illegal war and occupation. “Bush has spent $200 billion on war
and occupation - that’s $1.6 billion per week, $230 million per day, nearly
$10 million of every hour of every day to occupy Iraq. It would take $16
billion - 1/12th of what Bush has spent to occupy Iraq to provide health care to
all of the 9 million uninsured children in the U.S. Bush has proposed
only a $900 million increase in the Children’s Health Insurance Program -
helping less than 5% of the children in need - while 25 states cut back
eligibility for children in health programs last year, causing 650,000 children
to lose coverage.”
